Judge John Wiens of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada |
Another World Cup has made its way into history. It is hard to believe how much work commitment went into it by many people to pull it off. It was unforgettable trip, which I will forever cherish in my memories. Many people have worked very hard to make it possible for me to have had a great experience. My special thanks go out to the following.
1) My family, for letting me go. They knew how much this trip meant to me.
2) Steve Clayton, for organizing a flawless schedule. The man was/is truly on top of things and that made my trip very stressless. All I had to do if there seamed to be a question in my mind, was call Steve. He knew it backwards.
3) Dennis Hayes. WC website. Need I say more??? Thank you!.
4) Regional Directors and hosts. You took the time to pick me up from airports. Drove me back and forth around your countries, hosted me, took me site seeing, fed me and generally treated me like a king. People like you make a judges job much easier. Thanks to the many wives who cooked, did my laundry and accepted me as one of their own. Thank you!
5) All participants and qualifiers. It is because of you that the WC is possible. Therefore, please continue to support your WC fly, even if you were not in the finals this year. I remember after judging one gentlemen, who didnt score very well, saying proudly, At least I flew in the World Cup. Folks, participation gives you a sense of belonging. Thats what its all about.
I have seen many more kits, than I judged, met many good people and made many new friends. I am very encouraged, because the Roller Sport is in good shape all over the world. In fact, any of the top 5-6 kits could have won the contest on a given day. In the end, however, the kit, that was working consistently through the 20 min., pulled off the victory. Congratulations Dennis Burke!!!
Unfortunately I was not able to make every one happy, but every one accepted my call as a gentleman. Judging, I did not include birds, which did not roll to my satisfaction, in the brakes. Instead, I rather rewarded the kit with a higher multiplier.
I was very surprised, that many people dont know the rules. Let it be said here, that it is the responsibility of the RD to make sure, that every contestant has a copy before the competition.
For those of you, that didnt make it into the finals, there is always next year. Work your best birds hard, apply common sense, study your birds, select only THE best for stock, have patience and your day will come. Quality is what you want.
All the best to you all. In the sport, John Wiens, 2003 WC Judge. |
